The Bautechnische Versuchs- und Forschungsanstalt (bvfs) emerged from the material testing laboratory of the Glockner-Kaprun power plant group.

1955
The “state authorization” to issue research results as “public law documents” (certificates) was issued.

1960
The materials testing laboratory was relocated from Kaprun to Salzburg.

1967
The material testing laboratory was threatened by the dissolution of its former owners. The then governor DDr. LECHNER initiated a reorganization in the form of today’s nonprofit association Gemeinnütziger Verein für Bautechnische Versuchs- und Forschungsarbeiten Salzburg (vbvfs), which acquired the institute. The task was to independently reorient the operation of the institute according to private-sector principles.

1968
The institute work was taken up on 1 March 1968 in the new legal form as a non-profit association.

1995
The accession of Austria to the European Union led to a transfer of the institute to an accredited Testing Laboratory and Inspection Body. Thus, the legal conditions were also given for international activity.

1998
The bvfs was also state accredited as a Calibration Laboratory within the framework of the Austrian Calibration Service (ÖKD).

2005
The bvfs was authorized as a Verification Body for scales number 542. The Verification Body is operated in cooperation with small and medium-sized companies from the scales industry based in Austria.

2013
The bvfs is expanding its range of services to include a state-accredited certification body. With the notification in 2013 (NB No. 1086), certificates can be issued for construction products within the framework of the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

2020
The Director of Regional Development for Salzburg, Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Daniel Burtscher is elected chairman. He represents the members from the areas of property developers, construction companies, building materials industry and public administration.
